The donation site is open....  https://www.givemn.org/organization/cologne-academy

Any donations made today (NOV 1) thru the big day 11/17 will count towards our 11/17 day.
In partnership with our November Core Virtue of Generosity, we are asking each student to bring in two or more addresses for people/places that would be willing to donate to Cologne Academy during Give to the Max Day on Thursday, November 17th
Please send in your addresses to school by Friday, November 4th. Post cards will then be addressed and sent out during school. If we raise $10,000 we get an out of uniform day, $15,000 all staff will wear goofy hats for a day, and $20,000 Mrs. Peterson will dress in a costume for the whole day and at the next OSA. The money we raise will go towards needs for the school. Thank you in advance for your donation and addresses that will help spread the word. Please also note that as the year comes to a close many businesses are looking to match donations, asking your company to match your donation is a great way to double your donation and help the school make our goal.

This Week:
    • Please sign up for conferences if you have not signed up for a time already! Conferences will be held Tuesday, October 18th from 4:00 - 8:00 pm, and Wednesday, October 19th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. I am so looking forward to meeting with you! Please use the link below to either sign up for a conference time or to remind you of your conference time :)
    • Book orders were sent home last week. October's book order is due Tuesday, October 18th. You can order books via the website or send the paper form with a check to school with your kinder.
    • Here in kindergarten, we are going to start learning about the five senses during Core Knowledge. We will complete the unit on Tuesday, the 18th. To further our understanding of the five senses, we would like to complete a "five senses snack." We would so appreciate any snack donations you can provide to complete our snack. Please use the link below to sign up to donate any food items you are able to.
    • Reading calendars are due! If you have not sent your kinder's reading calendar with him/her, please do so this week! I will be sending them back home today :)
    • NO SCHOOL on Wednesday, October 19th (Conferences) and Thursday and Friday, October 20th and 21st for MEA!

Other "tid bits"

  • Please make sure you are sending your kinder's folder back to school every day. We are still practicing the afternoon routine, so your kinder's folder might not make it home one afternoon but please send it back when it does make it home :)
  • If your kinder is unable to tie his/her own shoes (or it takes him/her a long time to tie shoes independently), please have your child wear Velcro shoes. We change our shoes for gym and shoes can get untied fairly often. Therefore, the time it takes to keep tying shoes can add up!
  • If your kinder wears skirts or jumpers to school, she NEEDS to have shorts, leggings or tights on underneath her skirt or jumper at all times!
  • We have not begun using Lexia or IXL at school, so please do not have your kinder use either computer program at home. I will let you know when your kinder can start using the programs at home.

CORE KNOWLEDGE
Nursery Rhymes and Fables: This unit will introduce students to nursery rhymes and fables that have been favorites with children for generations.  Students will learn classic rhymes like “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,”  “Humpty Dumpty,” and “Hickory, Dickory, Dock,” as well as classic characters such as Humpty Dumpty and Little Miss Muffet.  Mother Goose and other traditional poems help students learn vocabulary and build phonemic awareness.  By listening carefully to nursery rhymes and repeating or reciting them by heart, students develop an awareness of language that will help them become better readers and writers.  Because nursery rhymes are fun and involve everyday activities, Kindergarten students can relate to them.
