Field Day

Cologne Academy K-4 Field Day

K-4 Field Day is Tuesday, May 29th (rain or shine) If outdoors, Field Day will take place on the city field southwest of the school.  If raining, Field Day will be held in the gym. Students should wear their college t-shirts and may wear their own non-uniform shorts. Sunscreen advised! Parents wanting to attend can get to the field by parking at the school and taking the walking path behind the gym to the field OR by driving west on Village Parkway from the school and taking a left (south) on Naples Avenue. Field Day Schedule is as follows:  K-2nd grades participates from 9-10:45 and 3^rd & 4th grades from 1:00-2:30. If there is inclement weather, families will be notified of the change to indoors around 7:30amthrough Schoolway.

Upcoming Events

· This Friday, March 23rd is College T-Shirt Day, March OSA AND an early release day. Students will be released shortly before 1:00 pm, so buses can "roll out" by 1:00 pm. If your kinder is going home a different way (other than your kinder's planned early release end-of-day arrangement), please let your kinder’s teacher know by Thursday afternoon! 

· The OSA this Friday will take place from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. You are more than welcome to join us in the gym! After the OSA, we will then head back to our classroom for a few more learning activities before recess/lunch. 

· Spring break is from Monday, March 26th through Monday, April 2nd. NO SCHOOL during these days, including Monday, April 2nd. Monday is an extra day off since we met our Give to the Max goal (in the fall).

A reminder-spaghetti dinner is on Friday from 5-7 at the Cologne Community Center (next door to CA).  This an event you do not want to miss!  

All are welcome to this family event- family-friendly pricing, too.  Tickets are purchased online.

The Silent Auction is open for bidding on many amazing teacher experiences as well as many cool baskets and other items and services.

Get ready for CA's 6th year supporting Pennies for Patients! This initiative will run Feb. 26th- March 2nd.  Students will get daily coin challenges. The challenge is to bring in as many as you can! Monday: Pennies Tuesday: Nickels Wednesday: Dimes Thursday: Quarters Friday: $3 to wear a HAT to school!  Friendly competition will be between K-4 classrooms, and 5-8th. The two top classrooms will receive a non uniform day.  CA Penny Goal: $4,000 to support cancer and leukemia patients and friends in our community. Together we can!

Spring Picture Day – Wednesday, February 28^th

Read-a-thon – March 2^nd Students can wear comfy clothes, bring one or two favorite books (please label), a blanket and a stuffed animal this day.  We will be reading in the camp area, doing DEAR (Drop Everything and Read), and doing Dr. Seuss/Read Across America activities!

MATH

During the months of January, February, March students will work on the following skills:

·         numbers 0-31 (ordering, identifying, representing, and writing)

·         addition

·         Ordinal Position

·         tally marks

·         matching and sorting: 3-D shapes

·         patterns : ABC, ABBA, growing patterns

·         comparing, ordering, and  measuring using non-standard units of measurement and with a ruler in inches

Throughout the year students will explore math through open-ended- problem solving journals, math stations, ipads/ipods, IXL, rekenreks, and a variety of math manipulatives.

LITERATURE

Focus: Character Traits

CORE KNOWLEDGE

Kindergarteners will learn about Kings and Queens, the Royal Family, and traditional songs and peoms related to Kings and Queens.

WRITING

We are working on thinking like writers and getting our ideas on paper using pictures and words.  We are also labeling, stretching out words, and using our vowels.  This week we are working on turning our writing and ideas into books and scrolls.  We are working on thinking about what we are going to write and planning it out across all of the pages in our story. Including details and labeling in our pictures is an important way to tell more about our story.  We are also working on neatness, finger spacing, punctuation, and making sense.

Conferences will be held Monday, February 12 from 4:00-8:00 pm and Thursday, February 15 from 4:00-8:00 pm.

and Spanish performances!

Every grade level should meet on the ramp outside the gym 5 minutes before their Spanish performance, and students will be dismissed from the stage back to their families after the Spanish performance.

Please stop and look at your students classwork on their desks in their classroom and take it home the night of the Expo.

·       Tuesday, January 23rd at 6:30 pm is an Information Meeting/Tour in the CA lunch room. If you know of any families interested in attending CA, spread the word!

·       Friday, January 26th is College T-Shirt Day AND the January OSA. We will be celebrating National School Choice Week and our 10 year anniversary. We are excited to show our dancing skills during the School Choice Dance :) You are more than welcome to join us for our OSA! Please let me know by noon that day if you are attending and taking your kinder home with you so I can ensure your kinder has his/her end-of-day things with us
