April 27-April 31


NOTES: Kindergarten has added a field trip coming up May 8th! We were offered the opportunity to visit the Haler Dairy Farm in Cologne. This field trip connects to our Core Knowledge Farm unit as we will learn how milk gets from the farm to our table. Look for a permission slip to come home this week in your child's backpack.

LITERATURE
Focus: Cause and Effect

MATH
This week's focus: Time
During the months of April and May  students will work on the following skills

  • numbers to 100 (ordering, identifying, representing, and writing)
  • addition and subtraction
  • ordinal position: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th
  •  patterns : ABA and shrinking
  • capacity
  • telling time to the hour
  • money: identify coins and the coin’s value, counting coins with the same value
Throughout the year students will explore math through open-ended- problem solving journals, math stations, ipads/ipods, IXL, rekenreks, and a variety of math manipulatives.

HANDWRITING/WRITING
Students will begin their unit -writing for readers. Students will work on writing about true events in their lives focusing on making their writing readable to others and including a beginning middle, and end.

CORE KNOWLEDGE
Plants- kindergarteners will learn about the parts of a plant and what plants need to grow. We will be growing our own plants and completing an observation log.

Relay for Life = Non Uniform Day May 20th!

NJHS is teaming with Relay for Life to raise funds to help fight cancer. NJHS is offering a non-uniform day for students who bring in a $2.00+ donation for Relay for Life. The non-uniform day will be Wednesday, May 20th.  Last year we raised over $1,600, our goal this year is $2,000. Please make checks out to Relay for Life.
