Focus: Character Traits

MATH
This week's focus: Measuring and comparing weight and height
During the months of January, February, March students will work on the following skills:
·         numbers 0-31 (ordering, identifying, representing, and writing)
·         addition
·         interpreting and analyzing graphs
·         tally marks
·         matching and sorting: 3-D shapes
·         patterns : ABC, ABBA, growing patterns
·         comparing, ordering, and  measuring using non-standard units of measurement and with a ruler in inches
·         Using a balance to measure weight
Throughout the year students will explore math through open-ended- problem solving journals, math stations, ipads/ipods, IXL, rekenreks, and a variety of math manipulatives.

HANDWRITING/WRITING
Students will be the authors of their own pattern books using books with a repetitive pattern as mentor texts. 

CORE KNOWLEDGE
Animal Study- kindergarteners will learn about various animals {polar bears, whales, eagles, wolves} for the next few weeks. We will examine non-fiction text features such as diagrams, bold words, table of contents, captions, and headings.
